LarimeLoom

My name is Maria Lucia Squillari and I live near Alba, situated in the north west of Italy, at the foot the french alps, on a big house in the middle of the hills, with goats, a garden and a big big family (we are nine in all).

Though I am the one doing most of what you see in shop, I could not do this without the help and patience of the rest of the Squillaris, as my mom, my sister and occasionally one of my brothers take the pictures, my mom is great for discussing brainwaves with, and everyone in general is just admirable in bearing with all the clutter I can create.

My family has always lived the " do-it-yourself-and-if-you-can't,-get-it-used-and-fix-it" philosophy and I guess it's just stuck in my DNA. both of my grandmothers are tailors and my mom is very good at sewing.

I was about 9 when she and I made our first loom, using a piece of plywood and nails, from there we gradually upgraded to a regular loom with harnesses and all. she also has always had a sewing machine, so I learned to sew on that. in my early teens I made handknit and handwoven scarves I would sell in the yarn shops in my town, but it is with etsy that my creative output found its proper place.
